Antiflag-transitive collineation groups revisited
An antiflag in a projective space is a non-incident point-hyperplane pair. A subgroup G of ΓL(n,q) is antiflag-transitive if it acts transitively on the set of antiflag of PG(n−1,q). In 1979, Cameron and Kantor [2] published a paper determining all antiflagtransitive subgroups of ΓL(n,q). A large part of the motivation was the fact that a group which acts 2-transitively on points is necessarily...
متن کاملOn Alternating and Symmetric Groups as Galois Groups
Fix an integer n = 3. We show that the alternating group An appears as Galois group over any Hilbertian field of characteristic different from 2. In characteristic 2, we prove the same when n is odd. We show that any quadratic extension of Hilbertian fields of characteristic different from 2 can be embedded in an Sn–extension (i.e. a Galois extension with the symmetric group Sn as Galois group)...
متن کاملAlternating groups as monodromy groups in positive characteristic
Let X be a generic curve of genus g defined over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic p ≥ 0. We show that for n sufficiently large there exists a tame rational map f : X → P1k with monodromy group An. This generalizes a result of Magaard–Völklein to positive characteristic.
متن کاملOn the Orbits of Collineation Groups
1. Introduction In this paper we consider some results on the orbits of groups of collineations, or, more generally, on the point and block classes of tactical decompositions, on symmetric balanced incomplete block designs (symmetric BIBD = (v, k, 2)-system=finite 2-plane), and we consider generalizations to (not necessarily symmetric) BIBD and other combinatorial designs. The results are about...
متن کاملOn Some Systems of Collineation Groups
SOME systems of collineation groups which arise in connection with the theory of elliptic functions have been investigated by Klein | and HurwitzJ. One of them is a system in n variables each group of which contains an invariant subgroup of order n. For n SL prime the quotient group with respect to this invariant subgroup is (1, 1) isomorphic with the modular group on two indices of order n(n —...
